The Geological Society of America and partners around the globe have been developing citizen science projects -- allowing non-specialist volunteers to participate in scientific research. This program, EarthTrek (www.goEarthTrek.com), helps scientists collect data which can be inexpensively done hundreds or thousands of times by students and members of the general public. Our plan is to deliver: (a) enthusiastic citizen scientists, e.g., student groups and individuals; and (b) an easy system for planning and setting up projects, collecting data, and interacting with participants.
