Hello, my name is _____. I'm a volunteer calling for Yale Public Schools. We are conducting a phone survey of about 400 randomly selected residents, asking for their opinions. Could I speak to _____ (name of selected person)?
This survey will only take about 5 minutes to complete and your answers will remain confidential. The Yale school board will use the information you provide to help it make decisions about school facilities.
Do you have a few minutes now to help us?
First, how many years have you lived in the Yale school district? (Note: If person is NOT a resident say: "We are only surveying residents of the Yale school district. I am sorry to bother you." Then disconnect.)
Are there any children of school age or younger living in your household?
What is your child's grade level? (Mark all that apply)
Students are often given the grades A, B, C, D or FAIL to show how they're doing in school. Suppose Yale Public Schools were being graded the same way. All things considered, what grade would you give the district ... an A, B, C, D or FAIL?
Now I'd like to use that same grading scale - A, B, C, D or FAIL - to ask about Yale school buildings themselves. All things considered, when youthink about the physical Yale High School building itself, what grade would you give it?
When you think of the overall job the people who work at Yale High School do, what grade would you give it?
What grade would you give the Yale Junior High School building?
When you think of the overall job the people who work at Yale Junior High School do, what grade would you give it?
What grade would you give the Avoca Elementary School building?
When you think of the overall job the people who work at Avoca Elementary School do, what grade would you give it?
What grade would you give the Farrell-Emmett Elementary School building?
When you think of the overall job the people who work at Farrell-Emmett Elementary School do, what grade would you give it?
And what grade would you give the Yale Elementary School building?
When you think of the overall job the people who work at Yale Elementary School do, what grade would you give it?
Now I'd like to get your opinions on some school issues to help the Board of Education as it decides how to address those issues. I would like you to rate how important you think the following issues are.
Up-to-date technology in Yale classrooms, which would include computers, software and other eqiupment?
Necessary repairs and long-term maintenance to school facilities?
Improvements to make our school facilities as energy-efficient as possible which would both help the environment and save on utility costs?
Security-related eqipment to make our schools as safe as possible?
An up-to-date bus fleet to transport students?
Voters would have to approve a bond millage to pay for any or all of these potential projects. To address these areas, the Yale school district is considering a half-mill proposal that would cost the owner of a $100,000 house an addition $25 a year .
Now I would like to ask you how likely you would be to vote for each of these potential projects if they were part of a plan that would go before voters such as yourself.
Would you say you would be Very Likely, Somewhat Likely, Somewhat Unlikely, or Not At All Likely to vote for technology for student use, such as classrooms, software and other eqiupment?
Necessary repairs and long-term maintenance of school facilities?
Building improvements to make school facilities as energy-efficient as possible?
Security-related equipment to make Yale schools safer?
New buses to ensure the district's bus fleet is up to date?
How do you think your friends and neighbors would vote on a proposal that would include a half-mill tax increase? Would you say they would be Very Likely, Somewhat Likely, Somewhat Unlikely, or Not At All Likely to vote for this proposal?
Where do you get MOST of your information about Yale Public Schools? (DO NOT READ ANSWERS; MARK THE ONES THAT BEST REFLECT THE PERSON'S RESPONSES. YOU CAN MARK MORE THAN ONE ANSWER)
And finally, do you have a personal computer in your home that is connected to the Internet?
That concludes our survey.
Thank you for your time.
