Welcome to Online Language Learning Program Characteristics Survey
The purpose of this survey is to solicit information on characteristics of online language learning programs. As we analyzed data from many language teaching programs, we noticed that the number of online or blended language learning programs has increased. However, we could not find much information regarding the characteristics of online language learning programs that we can use to develop guidelines for other language learning programs. In discussing this issue with representatives of national organizations and experts in the field, we realized that online language learning is an area of concern for schools, school districts, and states. In response, the National Foreign Language Center is conducting a study to explore the following question: What are the characteristics of successful online language learning programs?

In this survey, online courses refers to those for which all content is delivered online. However, the survey is intended to include all kinds of language learning programs that offer an organized series of courses delivered wholly or partly online. Courses in these programs are instructor-led, credit-bearing, and offered in a sequence of articulated levels. Hence, please complete the survey even if your program is a blended or hybrid model.

Your responses will be kept confidential. Please feel free to contact us at startalk@nflc.org if you have any questions and concerns.

Please complete this brief survey by October 12, 2012. If you feel that someone else in your organization is more appropriate to complete this survey, please forward it to her or him.

We thank you in advance for your time and effort.
