Learning Goals - After reading Developing Effective Working Relationships (Chapter 5 of the Handbook for Arkansas School Board Members), you should be able to: explain why it is important for the school board to develop and maintain healthy relationships with the superintendent, district staff, students, parents and the community; identify specific strategies school boards can use to form and maintain healthy relationships with the superintendent, district staff, students, parents and the community; list some standards the school board can use to fairly and reasonably evaluate the superintendent’s job performance; explain why school board members must abide by the school district’s line of authority in dealing with staff members; describe various ways the school board can become more attuned to student concerns and perspectives; identify ways the school board can involve parents in schools; and identify strategies the school board can use to meaningfully engage with the community.
